Brandy Alderson joined Marsh in 2004 and is a UCIA President and WRCIC Conference Chair, she is based in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is the primary Marsh contact for the Utah domicile, manages the regulator relationships and is responsible for the development within Utah and numerous other domiciles. She is also responsible for assisting clients in design, organization and implementation captive insurance programs.
In July 1993, Ms. Andersen joined the Risk and Insurance Services team in the Phoenix office of Watson Wyatt as an Actuarial Analyst. When GPWApurchased the Risk and Insurance Services Practice from Watson Wyatt on September 1, 1998, Ms. Andersen moved with them and was promoted to Senior Analyst. Currently Ms. Andersen is a Senior Managing Analyst. Ms. Andersen has over 22 years of technical experience in the reinsurance and captive industry. Ms. Andersen has recently achieved the Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI) designation from the International Center for Captive Insurance Education (ICCIE).

Ms. Brown joined GPW and Associates, Inc. as a Senior Account Manager in 2017. She specializes in captive insurance companies for mid-sized employers. In 2008, she left Marsh Captive Solutions, leaving as a Vice President to join GPW. Ms. Brown is responsible for assuring high quality service in captive management activities. Additional duties include assisting clients in design, organization and implementation of captive insurance programs.
Alan is a Partner in the Brown Smith Wallace Insurance Advisory Services group, where he specializes in the taxation of insurance companies. He also leads our Captive Insurance Advisory Services practice. Alan has 24 years of tax experience and has worked closely with insurance companies for 22 years. Prior to joining Brown Smith Wallace, Alan was a senior manager with a national accounting firm. Alan is responsible for serving insurers writing fidelity, personal and commercial lines; medical and life insurance; other professional malpractice coverages; and captive insurance companies. His areas of specialty include consulting and compliance tax services, captive insurance services and structuring and review of complex GAAP and statutory accounting tax provisions. He has also authored a number of pieces in the insurance tax and captive insurance company areas.
With over 25 years of experience in the investment management arenas of several insurance companies, Ms. Fowler brings a valuable understanding of the unique statutory, operational, investment and accounting considerations particular to insurance clients and the industry. Prior to joining Madison Scottsdale in 1995, she directed the Investment Accounting department and managed short-term investments for a large insurance group. Ms. Fowler holds a BS in Finance from Arizona State University.
Mike Grubbs has over 25 years experience in the insurance and claims industry, holding various management positions with companies in the South, Northeast, and Midwest. His education includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Marketing and Finance) from Southeast Missouri State University. He has also completed several technical management insurance courses, in addition to many years of professional development in the industry. Mike is a member of the St. Louis Claim Managers Council, the VCIA (Vermont Captive Insurance Association), St. Louis Risk Insurance Management Society, National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters. He is also on the executive committee for the Claim Professional Liability Insurance Company (CPLIC), and he is the secretary and a board member of MOCIA (Missouri Captive Insurance Association.)
Martha joined Larson & Company in 1995 and has specialized in coordinating, completing and reviewing audit fieldwork specifically for insurance entities for 20 years. Her experience also extends to preparing and filing quarterly and annual statements, and preparing and reviewing tax returns and provisions. This experience results in an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the accounting and reporting issues faced by her clients allowing her to regularly field questions related to the recording of complicated transactions and providing the necessary guidance to ensure proper accounting treatment. As Quality Control Partner for Larson & Company, she leads the firm in her technical expertise. Her accounting acumen is demonstrated by the fact that she received the second highest score on the CPA exam in the State of Utah when she sat for the exam. She is well versed in all the relevant accounting and auditing standards and regulation as specified by the AICPA, NAIC, FASB, and GASB.
Lauren Humphrey earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Northern Arizona University. She went on to receive her Master of Business Administration (MBA) with an emphasis in Accounting from Northern Arizona University. She is also an affiliate member of the Arizona Captive Insurance Association. Since 2013, Lauren Humphrey has worked with traditional and captive insurance companies, serving in various capacities at Eide Bailly, LLP and Strategic Risk Solutions (West) Inc. Initially, she applied her accounting background to auditing and performing financial examinations of traditional and captive insurance companies on behalf of the Arizona Department of Insurance. The auditing and regulatory industry exposed her to the application of Statutory, GAAP, and Tax basis accounting, as well as regulatory reporting. At SRS, her client activities include the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, board presentations, regulatory filings, NAIC filings and coordination of external audits and examinations. She mentors and supervises account managers on client accounts. Lauren also provides leadership and education through regular involvement in various conferences and industry groups to promote captives and their various applications. To continue to support captives, Lauren Humphrey joined the Arizona Captive Insurance Association as a Corporate Service Provider on behalf of the captive management firm Strategic Risk Solutions (West) Inc. She has a diverse background to draw upon that allows for a fresh perspective in the promotion of the captive insurance industry in Arizona. Additionally, she supervises captives domiciled in Arizona, Utah, Missouri, and North Carolina on behalf of Strategic Risk Solutions (West) Inc.
Renea Louie joined the Pro Group family of companies in 2005. She serves as Vice President of Pro Group Captive Management Services. Mrs. Louie is an accomplished business professional with extensive experience and knowledge in the Alternative Risk Transfer industry. Pro Group, since 1995 is known as the premier administrator of self insured groups for workers' compensation and approved Captive Manager specializing in alternative risk transfer solutions for businesses of all sizes and types. Prior to joining Pro Group, she held top level roles in the IT and high-tech industry. Mrs. Louie has 28 years’ experience in senior management, operations, IT, marketing and administration. She is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Pro Group Management, PGM Safety Services and Pro Group Captive Management Services. She oversees and manages marketing, underwriting, accounting, audit, risk management services, client and regulator relations, regulatory compliance and corporate communications in addition to the development and management of information systems, security and technology company wide.
Nick Meriage is an attorney at Pitzer Snodgrass, PC, in St. Louis, Missouri. His civil litigation practice is mainly comprised of professional liability, products liability, and premises liability defense. He represents product manufacturers, property owners, design professionals, real estate professionals, and medical professionals in Missouri and Illinois. Responsible for handling all phases of a case, from initial pleadings, depositions and discovery to preparing jury instructions and for trial, he enjoys the problem solving aspect of the job, as every case, no matter how big or small, involves new and unique problems to conquer. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law where he was awarded the Allen H. Parker Memorial Scholarship, the MU Grant, the JB Reynolds Student Award in Insurance Law, and CALI awards in: Insurance Law, Land Use Controls, and Agricultural Law. Along with his Juris Doctor, he received a Certificate in Dispute Resolution, and he utilizes the tools developed in obtaining the certificate to negotiate complicated problems for his clients, including successful settlements at mediation. He also has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Mark is a senior vice president at Lockton Companies and provides consultation on alternative risk structures, including captive insurance and financial review of program structure options. Prior to joining Lockton, Mark worked in public accounting. Mark works directly with clients to make sure the captive is meeting the organization’s objectives and is the most efficient mechanism for accomplishing the organization’s goals. Mark also leads Lockton’s Accounting and Tax Practice Group and works in the captive practice group to assist clients in understanding the tax and accounting impact of various alternative risk program structures. Mark has been at Lockton since 2001.
Derek P. Ruzicka
Derek P. Ruzicka graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2008. Prior to law school, Derek received his Psychology degree from Valparaiso University in 2004.Derek was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 2008. He is an active member of the Defense Research Institute. Prior to joining the firm, Derek worked as an estimator for a local construction business.
Mr. Smith Allan is a Client Service Leader and Senior Vice President in the Arizona office of Marsh Captive Solutions. He is responsible for oversight of client service teams that manage the daily activities of insurance companies, strategic captive program design, and new business development. Allan’s unique brokerage background provides expertise in broader risk strategies, tools and resources that captives utilize. His focus on both short and long term strategies sets a road map and helps a captive work in concert with the parent or group’s holistic risk program. Allan recognizes that a captive is only a piece in the broader context of a client’s risk strategy and works with brokerage teams inside and outside of Marsh to dovetail seamless solutions.
